About me
About Filo
Hi! I'm Martine (31), a textile artist based in Utrecht. I live here with my boyfriend and our dog Guusje, who you'll regularly spot in the studio.
Although I am educated as a technical physician and worked in healthcare for years, my heart has always been in creating. Whether it's painting, building furniture or crocheting: if it can be made by hand, I want to try it. A burnout in healthcare and the search for an outlet eventually led me to tufting: a technique that lets me fully express my love for colour, texture and shape. I was hooked from day one. What started as an experiment quickly became a full-time passion. And that's how Filo came to be!
The process
Handmade
Every piece starts with a sketch and ends with hours of careful handwork. In between, I use a tufting gun to push yarn into a cloth, line by line, building up color, texture and shape.
The result is a soft, tactile piece of art. Something you don't just see, but want to touch. Perfect as a statement on your wall or a one-of-a-kind rug on your floor.
No two pieces are ever the same. There's no mass production here. Just care, time, and craftsmanship. It's the small variations and subtle imperfections that give each work its own character, and make it truly yours.
