About me
About Filo
Hi! I'm Martine (30), a textile artist based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I live here with my partner and our dog Guusje, who you might spot keeping me company in the studio.
I've always been a maker at heart. Whether it's painting, building furniture or crocheting, if it can be made by hand, I want to try it. That restless creativity eventually led me to tufting: a technique that lets me fully express my love for color, texture and form.
From the very first piece, I was hooked. What started as an experiment quickly became a full-time passion. And that's how Filo was born.
The name says it all: Filo means "to love" in Ancient Greek and "thread" in Italian and Portuguese. Love for thread, and for creating unique, handmade pieces that bring warmth and character to any space.
The process
Handmade
Every piece starts with a sketch and ends with hours of careful handwork. In between, I use a tufting gun to push yarn into a cloth, line by line, building up color, texture and shape.
The result is a soft, tactile piece of art. Something you don't just see, but want to touch. Perfect as a statement on your wall or a one-of-a-kind rug on your floor.
No two pieces are ever the same. There's no mass production here. Just care, time, and craftsmanship. It's the small variations and subtle imperfections that give each work its own character, and make it truly yours.
